As soon as I saw this gloriously kitsch vintage Peek & Frean biscuit tin, I knew it belonged here in the shop!
The lid features a delightfully sassy poodle portrait on a scarlet background and a parade of charcoal and cream poodles encircling the perimeter of the tin.
Based in Bermondsey, London, Peek and Frean was originally founded by James Peek, a tea merchant. Peek’s sons didn’t want to continue in the tea trade, so he suggested setting up a biscuit company to complement the family business.
After Peek set up the company, one son died and the other emigrated. After 126 years, the Peek and Frean factory doors closed for good in November 1989.
The Hygge Factor
This would be the perfect tin for keeping treats for your four-legged friend, storing keepsakes and family photos or would make a beautiful gift as a sewing tin, along with some vintage reels of thread, fabric remnants and stork scissors.
