"I don't think I'm easy to talk about. I've got a very irregular head. And I'm not anything that you think I am anyway."--Syd Barrett's last interview, "Rolling Stone, "1971

*New Book*

Syd Barrett was the poster boy for the psychedelic rock scene. Blessed with elfin charm and artistic talent, he founded Pink Floyd with his three friends, Roger Waters, Richard Wright and Nick Mason and quickly changed the British musical landscape.

Shortly before the release of their debut album, The Piper at the Gates of Dawn, something changed. His bandmates claimed he began to withdraw into himself, only playing one chord on stage and even becoming catatonic.

The decision was made to replace Barrett with Dave Gilmour.

Barrrett produced two solo albums then left the limelight, dropping into obscurity.

So what happened to Syd Barrett?

How did a promising young artist end up with “a look in his eyes like black holes in the sky”?

Was Barrett just an acid casualty or was it something more?

In "A Very Irregular Head," journalist Rob Chapman lifts the veil of secrecy that has surrounded the legend of Syd Barrett for nearly four decades, drawing on exclusive access to family, friends, archives, journals, letters, and artwork to create the definitive portrait of a brilliant and tragic artist.

A must-read for anyone intrigued by the music scene of the 1960s.
